Description

The presented book has five Chapters. An introductory part of the book pertaining to the chemistry and biology of cyclopeptides is given in the first chapter. The aspects of natural origin of these special class of peptides in certain specific plants and the multidisciplinary applications of the cyclopeptides in chemical, pharmaceutical and clinical fields are described in this chapter. Isolation of some already reported cyclopeptides from Ixora coccinea plant leave by Soxhlet extraction, their chromatographic separationsand inferences on their structure by comparison with the reported results in this area are described in the second chapter. Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), SDS-PHAGE, Amino Acid Analysis, NMR, CD, FT-IR and GC-Mass Spectroscopy were used for the characterization of the isolated cyclopeptides. The third chapter deals with the elaborate multistage synthetic steps toward the liners PNC-28 peptide, its cyclisation to the cyclic PNC-28 peptide, and the various characterization procedures adopted. The peptides were synthesized using specifically improvised and suitably modified cross linked polymer supported solid phase peptide synthetic procedures. Fmoc amino acids and Wang resin were used for this synthesis in high yields and in gram quantity, after purification with Reverse Phase High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (RP-HPLC).
